Details:
Volunteers are needed for mornings (9.30am - 13.00pm) and afternoons (14.00pm - 17.30pm) on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th September 2010.
Whether you can volunteer for the whole weekend or just one of these shifts we'd love to hear from you.
We are also looking for volunteers to help out at various events leading up to the Green Doors weekend including at the CREATE Centre solar-powered fun day on 10th July. We will contact interested people directly about these opportunities.
Description:
Take part in a new event for Bristol. Bristol Green Doors is a pilot event supported by the Energy Saving Trust showcasing home refurbishments and ways of living that can make our homes warmer and less energy consuming. Home owners, supported by volunteers, will open their homes and share their experiences with the public on the weekend of 11th/12th September. The weekend will educate, inspire, enable and motivate people to make changes to their own homes and the way they use them to move towards greater energy efficiency, self sufficiency and comfort. The weekend will feature clusters of homes in neighbourhoods centred around hubs such as community centres. These hubs will support the event before, during and after with publicity, displays, energy advice and workshops so providing a stimulating and local context.
Open homes and hubs will be dotted across the Bristol area. Volunteers will be teamed up with householders or in hubs in an area as close to them as possible. Ideally volunteers will walk or cycle to the agreed location for the event.
Volunteers will be refunded travel expenses where necessary and those working for whole days will be given money towards lunch. Volunteers are covered by insurance policy of English Heritage, Heritage Open Days with which Bristol Green Doors is registered.
Because the opportunities are in peoples homes city wide, support for additional access and mobility requirements unfortunately cannot be guaranteed.
How to Apply:
Contact maddy@bristolgreendoors.org in the first instance and we'll be in touch with a simple application form. That will be followed up with an informal meeting and thorough induction prior to the event.
If you don't have access to email please contact Maddy on 07791373483.

Intergenerational Project Worker
£21,909 - £24,958 pa pro rata
Part-time, temporary contract for 1 year, 18.5 hours per week
Based in Marksbury, nr Bath
The Children’s Society is a leading children’s charity committed to making childhood better. We work with children across the country, providing the right support at the right time. We commissioned The Good Childhood® Inquiry; the UK's first independent national inquiry into childhood. Its aims were to renew society's understanding of modern childhood and to inform, improve and inspire all our relationships with children.
Building on the success of a partnership with Bath and North East Somerset Council, we’re looking to recruit a part-time Intergenerational Project Worker for a 12 month fixed-term contract. We need a creative person to work with young people aged 10 - 18 and other generations to create more cohesive, safe and happy communities.
You’ll deliver sustainable and creative intergenerational intervention for children, young people, and adults including older people. The project aims to help communities improve their perceptions of young people, address fears of anti-social behaviour and supports relationships to develop across the generations.
You’ll need a degree or a professional qualification in education, youth and community work, social work, or equivalent, together with experience of working directly with children and young people and older people. Your experience must also include inter-agency working and proven experience of using community development approaches in communities.
We’ll provide support, development and an opportunity to be part of a team. We need you to have the confidence to deliver intergenerational outcomes from the outset.
CPP Wessex is a well-established project working across Bath and North East Somerset and Somerset. The project works to promote community cohesion within communities, with disabled children, promoting participation especially for young children and with Travellers.
As well as a strong commitment to your development, we offer a generous holiday entitlement, a contributory stakeholder pension, childcare vouchers and flexible working.

Job Trainer
Details:
1 year fixed term
Description:
Mencap Employment Service in Bristol & North Somerset has opportunities for full, part time and sessional hours for Job Trainers
Positions will be recruited initially on fixed term basis (pending future funding being agreed).
Mencap Employment Service has Job Trainer vacancies for two existing employment projects in North Somerset & Bristol. Having a job can make a huge difference to the self esteem, confidence and independence of people with a learning disability. For you it’s all about the opportunity to help people with a learning disability achieve their potential and gain a meaningful role in their community.
You’ll work with an Employment Coordinator and local employers to raise awareness, secure their commitment and identify employment opportunities. From there you will assess the requirements of each role against the skills and abilities of the people that you work with to create person centred employment support.
You will work under the operational supervision of an Employment Co-ordinator to raise awareness and secure the commitment of local employers to offer employment to jobseekers with learning disabilities. You will match employment vacancies and identified job opportunities to the skills and abilities of the individuals you support, creating a person centred ‘path’ to employment. Then, after a period of support and monitoring, the employer and employee will work independently of Mencap, with the added security and knowledge that further support is only a telephone call away.
You’ll need to be a genuine team player with excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, together with a committed, flexible approach to the role, with an ability to build good working relationships with a range of local partners and stakeholders from parents and carers to Jobcentre Plus personnel.
Previous experience of working with people with a learning disability is desirable although not essential as relevant training will be given.
You must have access to your own transport and meet the need to travel to a range of locations in the area owing to the ‘out reach’ focus of the role and for which expenses will be paid.
All vacancies over 30 hours per week are open to job share. .For an application pack please email jane.prior@mencap.org.uk
